What is a sound bath?
A sound bath is an immersive listening experience where practitioners use crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and the voice to bathe the body in sustained tones and overtones. Participants typically lie down, close their eyes, and let the vibrations wash over them for 30 to 75 minutes.
Benefits of sound baths
- Nervous system regulation. Sustained tones cue the parasympathetic response, easing the fight-or-flight state.
- Stress and anxiety relief. Slow, resonant sound helps quiet mental chatter and lower perceived stress.
- Deeper meditation. Continuous sound gives the mind an anchor, making stillness accessible for beginners.
- Sleep support. Many people report falling asleep more easily on the nights following a sound bath.
- Emotional release. Long tones can surface and soften stored tension, grief, or overwhelm.
Understanding healing frequencies
Healing traditions and modern sound practitioners often work with specific frequencies. The science is still emerging, but the lived experience of these tones has been reported for centuries.
432 Hz — the "natural tuning"
Often described as warmer and more grounding than the standard 440 Hz. Many meditation and yoga practitioners tune instruments to 432 Hz to encourage relaxation.
528 Hz — the "love frequency"
Part of the Solfeggio scale, 528 Hz is associated with heart-centered practices, DNA repair folklore, and a sense of openness and connection.
The Solfeggio scale (396, 417, 528, 639, 741, 852 Hz)
Each Solfeggio tone is traditionally paired with an intention — liberating fear, facilitating change, connection, expression, intuition, and spiritual insight. Sound practitioners often layer these tones across a session.
Binaural beats and brainwave states
When two slightly different frequencies are played in each ear, the brain perceives a third "beat." Depending on the difference, this can gently guide the mind toward alpha (relaxed), theta (meditative), or delta (deep rest) states.
How to experience a sound bath
- Wear comfortable clothing and bring a blanket and eye cover.
- Arrive hydrated and with a light stomach.
- Set a soft intention — rest, release, clarity — without forcing an outcome.
- Let sensations, images, and emotions move through without analysis.
- Give yourself quiet time afterward to integrate.
Experience it at the Sacred Healing Summit
